Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Slabworks ("Slabworks", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses personal information when you visit slabworks.co, place an order, join our email list, or otherwise interact with us (together, the "Services"). Please read it alongside our Terms of Service.
Our store is hosted by Shopify Inc., which provides the ecommerce platform, checkout, and hosting that let us sell to you.
Information we collect
Information you give us directly. Your name, shipping address, billing address, email address, and phone number when you place an order or create an account. The contents of any message you send us, including support emails. Your email address if you join our restock list. Any information you volunteer in a product review or survey.
Payment information. Card payments are processed by Shopify and its payment partners, not by us. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, the payment method type, and the last four digits of the card. We never receive or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically. Your IP address, device type, browser, operating system, referring page, the pages and products you view, what you add to your cart, and how you move through the site. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies described below.
Information from others. Order and delivery status from our fulfillment partners and carriers, and aggregate advertising and analytics measurements from Google.
How we use it
- To fulfill your order. Processing payment, shipping the item, sending tracking, handling returns and RMAs, and answering your questions about an order.
- To run and improve the store. Understanding which pages and products people use, diagnosing problems, and improving the site.
- To communicate with you. Order confirmations and shipping notices, replies to your support emails, and, if you opted in, our restock and new-product emails.
- To advertise. Measuring whether our ads work and showing ads for Slabworks to people who have visited the site. See "Advertising and analytics" below.
- To prevent fraud and keep the store secure. Verifying orders, investigating suspicious activity, and protecting against abuse.
- To meet legal obligations. Tax and accounting records, responding to lawful requests, and enforcing our terms.
How we share it
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as described here:
- Shopify, which hosts the store and processes your order and payment on our behalf. Shopify's handling of your information is described in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy.
- Fulfillment partners and carriers. To deliver your order we share your name, shipping address, and contact details with the warehouse or supplier that holds the item and with the carrier. Some items in our catalog ship from a supplier located outside the United States, so for those orders your name and delivery address are transferred internationally. Which items those are is listed in our shipping policy.
- Google. For analytics and advertising measurement, as described below.
- Professional advisers and authorities. Our accountants and lawyers, and government or law enforcement bodies where we are legally required to respond.
- A buyer or successor, if Slabworks is ever sold, merged, or wound up. Your information would transfer with the business and remain subject to this policy until updated.
Cookies and similar technologies
We and our providers use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, measure how the store is used, and support advertising. Essential cookies, set by Shopify, are required for checkout to function and cannot be switched off. Analytics and advertising cookies, such as those set by Google, are optional.
You can control optional cookies through the cookie banner on our site and through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will break checkout.
Advertising and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the store, and Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing to measure our advertising and to show Slabworks ads to people who have visited the site. This involves sharing online identifiers, such as cookie IDs and IP address, with Google. Depending on where you live, this may count as "sharing" or "selling" your personal information for targeted advertising under state privacy law, even though no money changes hands for your data.
You can opt out of this at any time using our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. If you visit our site with Global Privacy Control enabled in your browser, we treat that automatically as an opt-out request for that browser and device. You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Marketing emails
We only send marketing emails to people who asked for them. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. You will still receive transactional messages about orders you have placed, since those are not marketing.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong
- Ask us to delete your information
- Receive your information in a portable format, or have it sent to another company
- Opt out of sharing your information for targeted advertising
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights
To make a request, email support@slabworks.co with the subject line "Privacy request". We will confirm receipt and respond within the time required by the law that applies to you, which in most US states is 45 days. We may need to verify your identity first, usually by confirming details of an order you placed. You can use an authorized agent, but we will ask for proof that you authorized them.
If we decline a request, we will tell you why, and you may appeal by replying to our response. If you are still unsatisfied, you can complain to your state attorney general.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as we need them for tax, accounting, and warranty purposes, which is generally seven years. Marketing list entries are kept until you unsubscribe. Support emails are kept for two years. Analytics data is retained on Google's default schedule.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections across the site and checkout, and we rely on Shopify's PCI-compliant payment infrastructure so that card details never touch our systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send sensitive information such as full card numbers to us by email.
Children
The Services are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.
Where we operate
Slabworks ships within the United States and is based in the United States. Our ecommerce platform provider, Shopify Inc., is headquartered in Canada and may store and process your information in Canada, the United States, and other countries where it or its providers operate. As noted above, certain items are dispatched by a supplier outside the United States, and for those orders your delivery details are transferred to that supplier for the sole purpose of shipping your order.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. We will post the revised version here and update the "Last updated" date. If the change is significant, we will notify customers by email.
